We are really pleased to announce that we're taking part in Shitbox Rally 2025 - Autumn! This year, all the teams are driving their shitboxes from Canberra to Townsville. To get to the rally I'll also be driving from Gold Coast to Wollongong to collect my Dad before continuing on to Canberra to start the rally. Approx 4,500km in total.
Shitbox Rally is the largest community lead fundraiser for Cancer Council in Australia and is now in its 15th year. Part of the participation is that all teams have to raise a minimum of $5,000 but most teams raise well above this amount as you can see with the Autumn 2025 rally target set at $2,000,000 plus.
A little bit about Us -
Team Capitan - Jenny (That's me)
I'm turning 50 in 2025 and am a qualified motor mechanic who is no longer working in the trade but still loves to tinker with cars. I love a good road trip and am happiest on an adventure.
Co Pilot or as he would prefer 2IC - Gerry (That's my Dad)
Gerry will be 75. He is a Vietnam veteran, who stayed in the army for 40yrs following Vietnam. He loves an adventure (prob where I got it from) and has been a paratrooper, an abseiler, a hiker, a rafter and a kayaker to name a few. He is pretty handy with cars too. Actually he is pretty handy with lots of things so I'm pleased he is my co pilot for a number of reasons.
The top three being
1. This is going to be an amazing Daughter & Dad Adventure that will make life long memories for the both of us.
2. We are going to be raising money for a cause that affects so many people. I know we both have a number of close friends and family that are no longer here due to this awful disease so anything that can help is a good reason in my book.
3. Henry
Henry is our car. Henry came into our lives as a second hand dealer car in a dealership where my little sister worked. Dad (well technically Mum) bought him in 2000 and somehow he was registered 1/1/2000 (This has proved a pain in the butt getting a pink slip each year in the holidays). Henry lived an adventurous life with my Dad. He was hit by a truck not once but twice and travelled all over the country before Dad decided it was time to give him to the wreckers in 2021. Then I stepped in and flew to Sydney on another amazing road trip with mates to rescue him and bring him back to the Gold Coast to live out his life. It was here he passed the 500,000km milestone and this is where I started thinking about the rally and thought how amazing it would be to have one last adventure with Henry before donating him to charity. A fitting send off for a car that has been everywhere and a chance to raise money at the same time.
These funds go to Cancer Council and we are extremely proud to be doing our part to support such a worthy charity. The fundraising is the hard part, so any donation you can give is greatly appreciated. Please make sure to follow our progress via this page and the blog post below.
Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.
The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.
Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.
Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.
Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.
Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.
$50 million over the past 15 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:
These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
