Our Story …

We are thrilled to announce that we're taking part in Shitbox Rally 2025 - Autumn! This year, all the teams are driving their shitboxes from Canberra to Townsville.

After years of missing the registration period, we're finally getting our chance to participate in this incredible event. Having fun in cheap cars is our passion. Our first adventure began when we purchased an E30 BMW sight unseen from Carsales and drove it back from SA. From that moment, we were hooked on the thrill of quirky and risky road trips.

Shitbox Rally is not a race, but rather a challenge to achieve the unthinkable: to drive cars worth just $1,500 across Australia via some of its most formidable roads, all in the name of charity. This event is the largest community-led fundraiser for Cancer Council in Australia, now in its 15th year. Every team must raise a minimum of $5,000, but most teams surpass this amount, aiming to reach the shared Autumn 2025 rally target of over $2,000,000.

The importance of cancer funding cannot be overstated. Almost 2 in 5 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85. It's estimated that over 1 million Australians are currently living with cancer or beyond cancer. This number is expected to grow over time as both cancer incidence and cancer survival continue to increase.

Unfortunately, we have seen the impact of cancer on our own loved ones, having lost grandparents to cancer and 10 years ago an uncle and aunty to bowel cancer. Looking at the statistics, it’s more likely than not you understand what that feels like. This fuels our dedication to this cause. We want to contribute to the Cancer Council's vital work in funding research, providing support services, and running prevention programs.

These funds support the Cancer Council, and we are extremely proud to contribute to such a worthy cause. Fundraising is the challenging part, so any donation you can give is greatly appreciated. Your support will help us reach our goal and make a significant difference in the fight against cancer. Please follow our progress via this page and the blog post below.

As shit car enthusiasts, we've learned to improvise and overcome challenges on the road. What better way to raise money for charity than to take a shitbox on a road trip across Australia, visiting roadhouses, enjoying many, many pies, and embracing everything the outback has to offer? This rally perfectly combines our love for quirky road trips with supporting a great cause. We can't wait to hit the road and make memories that will last a lifetime! And to honor our first cars, we can't think of anything more fun than doing it in an Astra.

Join us on this journey: Follow our adventure, share our story, and donate to help us reach our goal. We will ensure to GoPro the best and most challenging parts and keep you updated. Together, we can make a difference in the fight against cancer.

Thank you for your support!

Here's what I'm doing …

Shitbox Rally is the adventure of a lifetime challenging participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a 7 day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.

The rally is not a race – it’s a fun, colourful, unpredictable adventure with participants travelling at their own pace in smaller groups. Vehicles often break down but “we never leave anyone behind” and each night is spent camping beneath the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements. It all adds up to an incredible opportunity to see Australia’s vast and beautiful countryside and make lifelong friends, many brought together after experiencing cancer themselves or seeing cancer impact family and friends.

Since it’s inception the rally has been the largest fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally.

The Impact, Outcomes & Charity

Shitbox Rally is a dedicated fundraising event for cancer research with funds going to Cancer Council.

Cancer Council is one of the largest non-government funders of cancer research in Australia. We conduct and fund research studies across all cancers and all stages of the cancer journey.

Thanks to the community funds raised such as Shitbox Rally we can fund world-class research that reduces the impact of cancer for everyone.

$50 million over the past 15 years has been raised by Box Rallies to date, supporting ground-breaking projects such as:

  • A research study to develop a vaccine that protects against lymphoma cancers.
  • A research trial to standardise international guidelines on melanoma removal.
  • A research grant to revolutionise the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

These projects wouldn’t be possible without your support.
